CougarJam 2025

What is CougarJam?

Cougar Jam 2024 is a game jam for SIUE students. This event is being run and organized by the Game Development Group. Attendance is completely free.

According to Wikipedia:

"A game jam is an event where participants try to make a video game from scratch. Depending on the format, participants might work independently, or in teams. The event duration usually ranges from 24 to 72 hours. Participants are generally programmers, game designers, artists, writers, and others in game development-related fields. While many game jams are run purely as a game-making exercise, some game jams are contests that offer prizes."

Prior experience in game development is absolutely not needed. Everyone can contribute to creating a game in some way - visual art, writing, music, theme, ideas, programming, etc.. Attendees can come with a group beforehand, work as individuals, or find a group to work with at the event (we will help facilitate this). We encourage every student of every background and skillset to try this out. It is an amazing experience where you can meet many people and gain a lot of experience in working to create something as a team!

Who and When?

This event is open to ALL CURRENT SIUE STUDENTS, but prior registration is required. This event will take place in the Engineering Building on campus and last from 5 PM Friday, November 14 through 1 PM Sunday, November 16. We will meet in the Atrium on the first floor at the start of the event, but participants will be able to use various other locations such as computer lab EB 1012 and the Fowler Student Design Center throughout the duration of the event. Participants will be allowed to stay in the Engineering Building beyond normal building hours, but are welcome to come and leave as desired throughout the duration of the event.

If you do not have a computer that you will be able to bring and use at the event to work on your game, we have ~19 lab computers that we can assign for use if needed. However, due to the limited number of computers we have, this lab computer distribution will be on a first come, first served basis.
